My FAM Trip to Negril, Jamaica

Updated: Nov 2, 2023

Embarking on a FAM Trip:

I recently returned from a FAM (familiarization) trip to Negril, Jamaica, and it was an experience that completely changed my perspective of the place. I discovered there's so much more to Negril than just relaxing on the beach. The main goal of this trip was for travel professionals like myself to get a real feel for Negril, its accommodations, and activities so we can better advise our clients.

Exploring Negril's Accommodations: During this trip, I visited eight different resorts, each with its unique character, amenities, and ambiance. Here's a rundown of the resorts I had the pleasure of touring:

  • Royalton Negril: An all-inclusive resort, perfect for those perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort.

  • Riu Negril: Located in a great location, known for its all-inclusive amenities and vibrant nightlife.

  • Sunset at The Palms: A peaceful resort surrounded by tropical greenery.

  • Couples Negril: Tailored for romance, offering intimate settings and private beach spots.

  • Riu Palace Tropical Bay: An all-inclusive resort with a balance of blend of luxury and traditional charm.

  • Samsara Cliff Hotel: Located on the cliffs with clear ocean views, offering a quiet and secluded getaway.

  • Couples Swept Away: A beachfront resort, ideal for couples looking for an expansive yet intimate getaway.

  • Azul Beach Resort Negril: Family-oriented luxury, ensuring both adults and kids have an unforgettable experience.

It was an eye-opener to see the variety of options available for travelers.

My Stay at Royalton Negril: I stayed at the Royalton Negril, and let me tell you, this place is truly a vibe. The hospitality is unmatched. The rooms are spacious and stylish, with views that make you feel like you're waking up in paradise every day. You're spoiled for choice with their dining options, ranging from an all-you-can-eat buffet that surprises you every day with its variety to themed restaurants like a Japanese place and a dedicated seafood restaurant. The activities available are endless; you could be at a foam party one minute and relaxing in a private cabana the next. What really sets Royalton Negril apart, though, is the exceptional service. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure every guest's experience is nothing short of extraordinary.

Connecting with Global Travel Advisors: One of the highlights was meeting travel advisors from all over the world. We shared experiences, tips, and had a great time together, sharing our knowledge and creating a network that's invaluable in our field.

Discovering Negril Beyond the Resorts: Stepping out of the resorts, I discovered Negril's vibrant character. The nightlife scene was lively, with music and laughter. Local food, especially the jerk chicken and plantains sold by street vendors, was a feast for the taste buds.

The Famous Rick's Cafe: Rick's Cafe was another highlight of my trip. Picture this: a laid-back vibe with an iconic view of the sunset, live reggae music, and an energy that's just infectious. It's not just a cafe; it's an experience. People get a thrill from cliff diving, while others cheer them on. The food is delicious, with a menu that does a great job of highlighting local flavors. And the drinks! They just keep coming, and each one is as good as the last. Dancing, laughing, and just soaking in the vibes of Negril at Rick's Cafe was an experience I'll never forget.

Conclusion: This FAM trip wasn't just educational; it was an absolute blast. I came away with a deeper understanding of what Negril offers and a network of amazing professionals. For anyone considering Jamaica as a destination, I can't recommend Negril enough. It's got the perfect mix of relaxation, fun, culture, and mouthwatering food.
